Thought for the Day, Sunday, April 20, 2014

Easter Sunday

He is Risen! Alleluia!

They put him (Jesus) to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible.~Acts 10:39b-40

St. Paul puts all the cards on the table: If there is no resurrection, our faith is in vain. If death annihilates the individual and the community, we live in a meaningless universe. All the cards are on the table and each of us must make a choice. Christian faith says there is a way out. Jesus, the Son of God, came to live among us and inform us that he is the gateway to eternal life. In fact, he has gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us. We are bound, not for the bottom of the lake, but for the light light of glory. This is the Good News; this is Easter joy. Life trumps death. The tomb is empty. Jesus has risen.
