Lectors proclaim the Word of God at all liturgical celebrations. This includes the first and second readings, prayer of the faithful and parish announcements. It is important for the lector to understand the meaning at the heart of the text as the Word of God is meant to heard and understood and not simply recited. It is also important for the lector to understand the context of Word with regards to the Gospel reading as well as its placement in the Liturgical calendar. Training for this ministry is offered several times during the year. There is always a need for new volunteers in this ministry.
